Paul Allen, CEO of 10x Marketing, came to our Distributed Systems class today to talk to us about Internet marketing. Below are just some notes that I took during his discussion.
Top Ways to Increase Site Traffic

Here is a graph of how web search engines are intertwined. This is good when looking where you want to submit your site to.
If you are interested in finding approximately how many people search for certain key words, Overture has a free tool that will let you see approximately one-third of searches done on the internet for those given key words.
How to increase page traffic with search engines:
- Design web site to be indexed by search engine spiders:
- Use as much static content as possible
- Avoid using Flash, stick with HTML
- Design web pages around keywords:
- 1 page for each keyword
- 3-5 word phrases are usually easiest to get top 10 ranking
What matters most on search engines?
- Link Popularity
- Page Rank of Sites Linking to You
- Anchor Text of Links
If you want to use Google Marketing you will want to install the Google toolbar and use the PageRank and Info options to see stats on your page according to Google. You can also use the “link:” keyword in a Google search to find pages that link to your page. (link:dan-olsen.net)
You can also go to http://www.top25web.com/pagerank.php and put in your site url to get your page rank.
If you are interested in seeing how many pages you have on your domain, you can use a Google search using the “site:” keyword. (site:dan-olsen.net)
