IIW 2005: Light Weight Authentication

I am sitting in one of the first break out sessions today and the topic is Light Weight Authentication (LWA). The current systems being discussed is SXIP, LID, and OpenID.

Chris Allen is showing the kind of service he wants to provide where LWA could be beneficial. Chris wants to be able to create an online text editor where multiple people can edit the text at the same time. He compares it to an online version of SubEthaEdit. He calls this application SynchroEdit.

Chris wants to be able to authenticate people against a list of people who are allowed to edit. The question he is posing to the group is how can he authenticate efficiently between the web server, sync server and sync client. How can this be done easily and efficiently and can LWA work? That is the question.
