I use it as a blogging client for my personal blog, and I love it. I like it because of what it isn't. I've never installed the optional plugins they have because I like the simple, clean environment. Being able to save local drafts is also very nice.

THROWING THINGS AT ANYONE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! (I can’t wait to see if anyone comments on when it is acceptable to throw something at someone.)
</blockquote>

Are you saying that something as beautiful as <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnJbeswDpVg&mode=related&search=" rel="nofollow">this</a> is unacceptable?

On a serious note, I agree with you completely.

Hey Dan,

You might try looking into no-ip.com. They have an option I use to get around the static IP thing. You get a URL at one of their domains and they give you an update client that points that URL at your machine with a dynamic IP. Not a perfect solution if you want to host your own site that would get a lot of traffic, but good solution for personal use or testing.

In addition, you can use a free DNS like zoneedit.com to point your own domain (i.e. dan-olsen.net) at the URL you get from no-ip and then you would not have to use their lame URL.

Hope this helps.

The Etiwanda School District (K-8) in Southern California actively uses technology in its educational program. Teachers are given training and resources to allow them to utilize it in there instructional program. The district provides guidelines on the types of technology that is to be used and the expertise students should have as they leave each grade level. Sample lesson plans have been prepared to aid teachers and give them additional help. Often the lessons utilize internet research as well as mixing math, social studies and language arts.
The district also has provided tools for teachers to help them communicate with parents on lesson plans and for keeping track of student progress. The district looked at several commercially available programs, but in the end hired a software consultant to develop the software to fit the districts needs. The district preferred to have the software fit their work processes rather than change the district culture to fit the software. The program works as a grade book and allows the teacher to monitor the progress of students in achieving the state standards. It also prepares the report cards. It can be used to provide statistical information on an individual class, or on a grade as a whole. Parents are also able to log in and monitor their child’s grades and also to check on assignments.
The Etiwanda School District’s technology site can be found at – <a href="http://www.etiwanda.k12.ca.us/district/T.." rel="nofollow">http://www.etiwanda.k12.ca.us/district/T..</a>

I’ve used blogs (including Slash, Radio and Movable Type) to manage courses for about 3 years. Have you thought about how blogs can be used to achieve many of the same features of Blackboard? I’d be interested in seeing a comparison of features and uses.
